Mark Hunter was elected as your Sheriff of Columbia County in 2008. Since then, Sheriff Hunter has transformed the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office into the advanced office it is today, expanding technology and modern tactics used by law enforcement agencies.

About Mark Hunter

Sheriff Hunter attended Columbia High School and graduated with the class of 1979. Hunter is married to his wife Marilyn, and they have two children, Leslie (Jeff Haskins) and Natalie (Justin Goss), and two grandchildren, Kayleigh and Finley.

Hunter started his law enforcement career as a patrol deputy and School Resource Officer. Later he served as a special agent, and district supervisor for the Division of Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco Enforcement, and the undersfheriff of Columbia County before being elected Sheriff in 2008.

Mark also served 30 years in the Florida Army National Guard, retiring as Lt. Colonel

Sheriff Hunter has a BA degree in Organizational Management, graduated Command and General Staff College with the U.S. Army, and graduated the FBI National Academy, 256th Session.
